Types of kitchen
The observation of kitchen layouts has led to several common designs, primarily defined by the arrangement of kitchen cabinets, the sink, stove, and refrigerator:
Straight-Line Kitchen: All essential elements are placed along a single wall, forming a linear workflow rather than a work triangle. While not the most efficient layout, it is often the only option in small spaces, such as studio apartments.
Corridor (Galley) Kitchen: This layout features two parallel rows of cabinets along opposite walls—one side typically houses the stove and sink, while the other contains the refrigerator. It is commonly found in newer apartments with a service balcony or laundry area.
L-Shaped Kitchen: The cabinets occupy two adjacent walls, effectively preserving the work triangle and providing a more ergonomic workflow.
U-Shaped Kitchen: Cabinets extend along three walls, with the sink usually positioned at the base of the “U.” While this layout maximizes workspace, it can feel restrictive if multiple people are cooking at the same time.
G-Shaped Kitchen: Similar to the U-shaped design but with an additional peninsula, which can serve as a counter, breakfast bar, or extra workspace.
Island Kitchen: An island unit acts as a multifunctional centerpiece, serving as a preparation area, storage space, dining counter, washing station, or even a cooking area. When space allows for an island, it offers great flexibility and creative possibilities in kitchen design.
